SHOREVIEW COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

Jim Chalmers
In 1991, Jim was elected Mayor of the City of Shoreview and served in that position through January 1997.  He helped start up PRRI, a Philippine based environmental firm involved with water and waste water cleanup in 1996.  In 2002, IPR joined together with Presbyterian Homes and Services (Minnesota) to establish International Nurse Recruitment, LLC.  
 
John Conlin
A Shoreview resident since 1993. John and his family are members of St Odilia’s Church in Shoreview. He currently serves as a speaker on behalf of the Best Prep program serving high school students. John has also served on boards for Young Men’s Downtown Association, Home of the Good Shepherd in North Oaks, St. Paul Skyway YMCA, and the Shoreview Rotary Club.


Will Conlin (Youth Member)
Will is currently a student at Mounds View Senior High School. He has grown up in Shoreview and has been involved in the community in many different ways including playing baseball since age 8. Will also has served both as a Shoreview  youth baseball umpire and a Mounds View youth basketball referee.  Active at his local church, Will has recently been confirmed and has served as a volunteer for early elementary age students. Will appreciates Shoreview for its wonderful parks, many trials, awesome community center and hi-tech library.  He is convinced Shoreview is and can continue to be one of the best cities in Minnesota.


Nancy Hite (Chair)
Nancy and her husband moved to Shoreview in 1998.  She had a 35 year career in nonprofit services and executive management in Minneapolis. Nancy served on the Shoreview Human Rights Commission for 8 years, and has volunteered on a number of foundation and community development boards, including the Minnesota TWINS Community Foundation, Foundation IX, and the Nicollet Mall Advisory Board.  


Rebecca Jiang (Youth Member)

Rebecca is a student at Mounds View High School. She enjoys sharing her love for music and has been part of a classical quartet / chamber that has performed in nursing homes throughout Shoreview.  Community and giving are concepts that Rebecca values and she looks forward to sharing her voice to assist with conversations, actions and decisions to assist the City of Shoreview to become a better place to live, play and work.


Lisa Jore

Lisa has been a resident of Shoreview for over 12 years. She has worked in the public sector for 18 years and has served as a volunteer and board member for a variety of civic and healthy living nonprofit organizations. She and her family enjoy visiting the lakes and parks of Shoreview and biking riding on its beautiful bike trails.


Sandra Kensy

Sandra has been a resident of Shoreview for over 48 years.  Her parents, Virginia and Howard Lundgren, were the first Shoreview Heritage Family and Grand Marshalls of the 2004 Slice of Shoreview.  She has been practicing law out of her Shoreview home since 2000.   She has a general practice, including family law, business law, real estate, and probate.  She has been married to Jim for 35 years and is the proud parent of three Mounds View High School graduates and the grandmother of five precious grandchildren.


Sue Knudson
Sue has been an active member of the Shoreview and Arden Hills community since moving to Minnesota 37 years ago. While raising two daughters she served in leadership positions in the Jaycee Women's group. She chaired the Island Lake School carnival and served as PTO president. As a 621 Foundation member she chaired the grant committee. Sue was a founding board member of the Ken Rome Foundation and co-chaired the annual 5K Fun Run for Cardiovascular Research, in Shoreview's McCullough Park. She retired from teaching several years ago. 


Sandy Martin
Sandy has been the Mayor of Shoreview since 1996. She has served as Co-Chair of the Regional Council of Mayors, is a representative to the Municipal Legislative Commission, co-chairs the Leadership Luncheon Committee for Northeast Youth and Family Services, and is co-founder of the St. Paul Urban Program, a non-profit organization serving disadvantaged youth in St. Paul. Sandy helped to establish the Shoreview Community Foundation in 2008.  She enjoys most outdoor activities with a special emphasis on tennis, hiking, golf and skiing. Mother of four adult children: Lisa, Craig, Wade, and Ryan and grandmother of seven.


Gaye Melton

Gaye has been an active residential and business member of Shoreview and surrounding communities since 2012, when she moved with her husband and their two children to Shoreview.  She is an active parent volunteer at Turtle Lake Elementary, an ardent supporter of the Friends of the Ramsey County Libraries, a regular Kids Ministry volunteer at Calvary Church and an occasional co-volunteer with Shoreview Community Center Youth Sports.  Currently residing in North Oaks, she enjoys most outdoor activities, especially trying to keep up with her daughters on the ski slopes, exploring the outdoors with her family and - when all the stars align – getting lost in a good book.


Carol Brown Mills

Carol has lived in Shoreview for 30 years. She and her husband Andrew raised their three children in the Mounds View Schools. She is active in the Peace Community of Faith in Shoreview as well as a part-time educator in the Centennial Schools and St. John's Parish School. Carol also serves on the Board of Directors of the Mounds View Community Theatre and has served recently as their liaison with the Shoreview Library to plan theatre-related programming and bring sensory-friendly performances to theatre audiences.


Helen Nelson (Secretary)               
Helen and her husband, Perry, moved to Shoreview in 1977.  Currently a full time Realtor with Edina Realty, Helen taught for over 30 years. Their three adult children were raised in Shoreview and graduated from Mounds View High School. In 2013 Helen and Perry helped establish the Mounds View Community Theatre Fine Arts Scholarship recognizing students from both district high schools. Helen has served on several District 621 committees and chaired the first kindergarten task force.  She has been involved with youth soccer, written MN State health curriculum guides, and loves living in Shoreview.     

Eugene Nichols  
Eugene currently serves on the Human Rights Commission for the city of Shoreview.  He is a graduate of the Shoreview Citizens Academy and a retired 3M Healthcare manager.  Eugene also serves as Board Chair at Open Cities Health Clinic in St. Paul, as Board Chair at Rainbow Research, a non-profit research and evaluation organization; on the Ramsey County Community Health Advisory Committee; the Ramsey County Healthy Family Initiative Advisory Commission, and is Chair of the Minnesota Heart Association Advisory Committee.  He also is an active member of the African American Leadership Forum.


Curt Proud

Curt and Beverly have lived in Shoreview since 1994, and their son Matt attended school at Snail Lake, Chippewa, Mounds View and graduated from the U of M.  Beverly is active in several book clubs.  Curt is a past member of the Shoreview Planning Commission.  Curt has worked in insurance and risk management and as land and claim manager for a pipeline company.  Curt is a project manager for ProSource Technologies and handles the land and permitting aspects of cross county pipelines and similar public utility projects.  Curt is a regular volunteer for summer camp programs of True Friends.


Gwen Simonson (Vice Chair)
Gwen has been a resident of Shoreview for 30+ years. Married to long-time Shoreview assistant city manager Tom, they have raised two daughters (Paige and Katie) – both graduates of Mounds View High School and University of Minnesota. Gwen is a business management graduate from the St. Scholastica and works as a Senior Claims Resolution Specialist at Liberty Mutual, where she has worked for over thirty years. Gwen has been involved as a volunteer at St. Odilia Church, the Sharing Corner Food Shelf and the Slice of Shoreview where she worked on fundraising and as the parade coordinator. She is excited to help support the great work of the Shoreview Community Foundation.


Michael Spellman

Mike had a 35-year career in marketing and direct sales at several corporations. He has served on the board of Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity and as Board Chair and President of Lakeshore Players Theatre, during which time they raised the funds to construct their new performing arts center in White Bear Lake. He serves on the board of Sister Parish, Inc., an international organization which facilitates partnerships between U.S. and Guatemalan and Salvadoran churches. Mike also is a member of the Vandais Heights Economic Development Corporation.


Peggy Strom (Treasurer)
Peggy has been a Shoreview resident for 26 years. She has two adult sons, now married, who are graduates of Mounds View High School and Eagle Scouts through local Boy Scout Troop 200. She retired in June 2015 from Medtronic, Inc. following a 36 year career in Finance and Accounting.  Peggy has been active in the Arden Hills / Shoreview Rotary Club for 19 years, and is currently serving a second term as club president. Husband Don Strom joined Peggy in Shoreview in 2002. Don is retired following a long career in office product sales. 


Aunika Zheng  (Youth Member)

​Aunika attends Mounds View High School (MVHS) and is and has been active in the community in a variety of ways. She has played violin in many groups and quartets, is an active volunteer with several organizations including Bel Rae Senior Living, MVHS Brain Cancer Awareness Club, the MVHS Information Learning Center, the National Honor Society, and Synergy which encourages students to recycle to better the earth.  Aunika recently co-founded EcoSlurp, a company that assists in the combat of plastic waste by selling a biodegradable and recyclable bubble tea straw.  They have a business partner and recently received first place at the Minnesota Council on Economic Education Entrepreneur Trade Show and won a Business Ready prize.
